Did anyone watch the flordia-georgia game saturday? I liked georgia's alternate color schemes. Those black helmets were rockin. Florida wore the same, gay monotone blue jumpsuits they always do. But among all of those uniforms, number 51 for the gators showed me something about himself on saturday. I went to the OU-Florida national championship in January, and watched Brandon Spikes talk crap all night to Sam Bradford (who is probably one of the classiest men in college football). Players talk crap, whatever. I also watched him get away with hitting linemen and receivers in the face mask with his gloved hands. That also happens, football is emotional.
However, its not emotional enough that you are wanting to inflict permanent injury onto an opposing player.
That opposing player is Washaun Ealey, Georgia RB. Get this: After an ealey carry, spikes jumped on top of the pile of players and proceeded to gouge out Ealey's eyes. Gouge his eyes out. Let me repeat that. He is caught on film with his dirty mitts extending two fingers into Ealey's face trying to gouge an opposing players eyes out of his skull. Last time i checked, that would make you blind.
What a thug. Thats not emotional....thats criminal. Thats one degree away from manslaughter. Poking away at a defenseless players eyes. Congrats, douche. You just solidified yourself as a grade-A crook. What is even more sorry is the response that this act invoked from The Lord Jesus Christ Himself, Tim Tebow. And I quote:
"I don't think that we did anything in that game that they didn't do."
Oh well, then, all bets are off! Gee, Tim, your omniscience not only blesses my ears with its sweet, majestic melody, but it also reveals your excuse to be as immature as a first-grader trying to explain to his teacher why he poured glue on another kid's face. I thought that's what God teaches us, to treat others as we would want to be treated, regardless (to an extent) of how they initially demean ourselves. Oh wait, I have to remember I'm not on ESPN, so there IS a difference between our holy father and tebow. Dude, grow up. You're 22 years old now, realize that two wrongs dont make a right.
The cheapest shot, however, was what Urban Meyer did to address the issue. Meyer has decided to suspend Spikes. For a half. Against Vanderbilt. And apparently, thats ok with the SEC. That crystal trophy is pretty shiny, isnt it. Maybe so shiny, it blinds you from right or wrong. I'm not born yesterday, i know some of the most successful programs in history were some of the dirtiest. But nowadays, there are more eyes on you. You have to hold yourself far more accountable today than you did 20 years ago. Oregon leading rusher Laugarrett (sp?) Blount punched a Boise st player in the face the first game of the season, and Ducks coach Chip Kelly suspended him for the season. Guess meyer doesnt have the testicular fortitude of Kelly. While we are on this subject, I would like to bring up a similar dispicable act that occurred earlier this season. Texas LB sergio kindle ran his drunk ass into the side of an apartment building, and couldve killed several people. Mack Brown has yet to issue a reprimand against his super defensive stud. Like i said, thats a shiny trophy.
So congratulations Florida. Today, you have shown the rest of the country your wreckless journey to the national championship is paved with eye-gouging thugs, whiny immature deities, and an irresponsible coach. Who knows, you may have even had a newly-blind athlete in your wake.
